My Hollow Form Concepts

 My Hollow Form Concepts

(and 3D prints!)

This is Octi Ozzy. I wanted to see how I could suspend a sphere and I felt challenged to make character. An octopus felt like a good choice. I used his legs to hold it up. I lofted, mirrored and rotated his legs.

I call this one Fractal Funk. I wanted see if I could suspend a cube with funky looking legs. The legs and arms are lofted, mirrored and rotated.

This is Trunky the Tree! I got the idea to make the trunk by making one long loft from root to branch, which proved to be a lot of work getting the loft to work over such a long run. I then mirrored and rotated them into each other. Finally, I twisted the tops and added the face. I also ran into issues when I used Boolean Union. I ended up having to stagger the matching pairs, union the pairs together, then rotate around and union them again.

This one is called The Twisted Clams. I wanted to try making this concept with an odd shape and a clam seemed like a challenge.

This one is called the Fractal Vase. I wanted to see how steep of an angle I could get to print. This a closed loop loft made from two different closed curves and rotated in a circle. I then used taper to expand the top.

Flower Power! Naturally after making a vase, I thought to try making some flowers. I lofted 3 different stems with flowers, each from a different polygon stretched and rotated till it gets to the flower. I tried something different with the lofting process: at each polygon I move the loft line one corner over resulting in a symmetrical twist. I then rotated them out, and twisted and tapered the bottom 2/3s.
