 My Six Original Concepts The Spikey Vase Flower Power The Twisted Clams Trunky the Tree Octy Ozzy Fractal Funk Brandon's Six Original Designs             

 The Model We decided to name this model The Hour Glass of Clams. This design is made up of my Twisted Clams model and Brandon's Hour Glass model. We decided to try and make one model flow into the other one. We made our hybrid model a vessel, only having one 2 layer perimeter wall, no top and a 2 layer bottom. joining the two models proved challenging, but after some experimentation we figured out to get them the Boolean Union, we had to make a joining object. The joining object is shaped like an egg with the longer half sticking into the bottom model.  To get this model print better, I need to increase the size of the egg shaped joining object in the bottom half of the print so that it intersects with the parts that try to start printing in mid air. This model would then be perfect. 

The Five Concepts Hour Glass of Clams The first one we decided to explore was mashing together my Twisted Clams model with Brandon's Hour Glass Model. This is the model we decided to print. It's main function is art, secondary is a vase or pencil holder. The aesthetic qualities of this model are it's shared twisted and crossing design. We found out when printing this model that there a few small areas that tried to start in mid air, but they are mostly hidden. Tree Hour Glass For the second hybrid we mashed together my Trunky the Tree with with Brandon's Hour Glass Model. This one I am also printing, but might be done before class. It's main function is art. It has a tube down the center that could be used to display something like a flower or some kind of art on a stick.  My Hollow Form Concepts (and 3D prints!) This is Octi Ozzy. I wanted to see how I could suspend a sphere and I felt challenged to make character. An octopus felt like a good choice. I used his legs to hold it up. I lofted, mirrored and rotated his legs. I call this one Fractal Funk. I wanted see if I could suspend a cube with funky looking legs. The legs and arms are lofted, mirrored and rotated. This is Trunky the Tree! I got the idea to make the trunk by making one long loft from root to branch, which proved to be a lot of work getting the loft to work over such a long run. I then mirrored and rotated them into each other. Finally, I twisted the tops and added the face. I also ran into issues when I used Boolean Union. I ended up having to stagger the matching pairs, union the pairs together, then rotate around and union them again. This one is called The Twisted Clams. In my design process, I added alignment holes to make symmetrical/aligned assembly easier. I also chose to change the material of the bottom layer to mirrored acrylic because I cut the original wood stock smaller than the design. The top 3 layers have 3M adhesive sheet holding them to the layers underneath, essentially making the 4 layers into one sold piece to stop potential warping. After assembly I used a waterproof clear coat the further adhere the layers together and seal them from potential drink spills.
